Washington, D.C. / Eastern Mediterranean – The skies over the Middle East are once again bracing for thunder—but this time, it’s from the engines of U.S. military jets. In just four days, 52 American warplanes have been tracked crossing the Eastern Mediterranean, sparking fears of a looming war as tensions between Iran and Israel escalate dramatically.
According to Sky News, the aircraft include troop transports, fuel tankers, and surveillance planes, many of which flew through UK and Greek air corridors, headed for U.S. bases in the Middle East. This sudden build-up is being viewed as a strategic signal from Washington, with President Donald Trump reportedly weighing a direct military strike on Iran.
✈️ What the Numbers Reveal
Flight tracking data reveals a sharp surge in activity between Monday and Thursday:
-
32 transport aircraft
-
18 aerial refueling tankers
-
2 high-altitude surveillance drones
-
At least 25 flights via Chania Air Base in Crete, Greece – 8 times more than the first half of June
This level of movement, experts say, far exceeds routine deployment patterns and likely indicates pre-positioning for potential offensive action.
🛫 Stealth Fighters on the Move
While flight trackers do not show F-22 Raptors or F-35 fighter jets due to stealth features, an air traffic control log on Wednesday confirmed F-22s crossing the Atlantic. On the same day, 12 F-35s were recorded departing the UK en route to the Middle East, with images captured by Sky News.
In another sighting, three C-17A Globemaster transporters and a C-130 Hercules cargo plane landed at Prestwick Airport in Glasgow, after looping from Germany to Jordan and back to the UK.
💣 Is the U.S. Preparing for War?
While the U.S. has not officially declared any intention to strike Iran, analysts say this massive mobilization suggests that Washington is no longer in a defensive posture. Rather, it is now positioning itself to support or directly engage in a strategic preemptive operation—particularly targeting Iran’s underground nuclear sites, such as Fordow, buried 80–100 meters below ground.
Only U.S. “bunker buster” bombs are believed capable of reaching and neutralizing these hardened facilities.
🤝 Why Israel Needs U.S. Muscle
Despite Israel's dominance in regional airspace, it lacks the deep-penetration firepower needed to fully neutralize Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. That’s where the U.S. comes in. Coordinated strikes could involve Israel taking the lead on initial air assaults, with the U.S. deploying precision munitions and support logistics to finish the job.
